Using Online Video Marketing to Promote a Boating Business
A few weeks ago we produced a video for Mahopac Marine’s website, and the truth is that besides being a pleasant experience, it left us with a very strong impression that we would like to share.
Arriving at beautiful Lake Mahopac in Mahopac, New York, the first thing we noticed is the blue house by the water, surrounded by docked boats. Mahopac Marine has been owned and operated by the Melchner family for more than 40 years, and from looking at it you can just begin to grasp what it stands for.
Of course, Mahopac Marine sells boats, but after spending some time with the owners, we discovered they are so much more. What we enjoy about working with small businesses is discovering what makes them special and then finding a way to share that on film. With Mahopac Marine, a boat sale is more of an experience rather than a mere purchase. If you are a newcomer to boating, they will go the extra mile to thoroughly teach you how to use your boat, making sure you have the confidence to go out safely onto the water. No extra charge for that, of course.
Another thing you don’t see just looking at the marina is their reputation for boat repairs, which has crossed state lines and even country lines. Customer from all over the country make an effort to bring their boats to Mahopac Marine, where the mechanics are known for their “magic hands.”
Reputation is something you cannot buy. It has to be built with hard work and dedication. Charlie Melchner Jr. mentioned a customer from Michigan who came all the way to Mahopac to buy a Stingray boat. The dealer five minutes from his home offered the same boat for a slightly lower price, but the customer chose to buy from Mahopac Marine for their reputation and because they made the process so much easier.
The Melchners shared many stories like this with us. Ultimately Mahopac Marine makes boating a community experience. Walking in the marina on a sunny summer afternoon you can see the interaction between boat owners. They are like one big family. As Charlie Melchner Sr. says, “we don’t sell boats, we sell a lifestyle”.
